Modern cheap graters are stamped from mild steel, and the tool quickly dies. Old favorite graters have now exhausted their resources. But throwing them away is not necessary. Using improvised materials and 10-15 minutes, you can grind grater at home.
Face sharpening
The easiest way - to walk with an abrasive on the front side of the grater.
To do this, use:
- sand paper;
- unglazed circle on a ceramic, porcelain or earthenware cup.
The disadvantage of both methods is noticeable scratches on the front side of the grater.
How to grind grater with sandpaper:
- Take a small sheet of medium “skin”.
- Swipe quickly from bottom to top or left to right for 5 minutes.
- Grind the blades for another 5 minutes with the same movements, but with fine sandpaper.
How to use a mug for sharpening a grater:
- Turn the mug upside down.
- Holding the dishes by the handle, with a slight pressure, rub the grater along the blades (from the lower edge to the upper).
- Continue for 10 minutes.
Important
The main condition is that the abrasive should always go in one direction.
From the inside
Blade-petals are not so much dull (like knives) as they are pressed and begin to cling worse to products.
Since the reason is not so much in the thickness of the petals of the grater, but in the angle at which they are located, the most effective methods will be with a file and a drill:
- A file of suitable diameter is inserted into the hole of the knife and the petal is slightly bent outward, while pulling out the file - there is an adjustment and a slight sharpening along the seamy side of the petal.
- The drill is fixed in a small drill or screwdriver, inserted into the hole of the knife at the angle at which the blade went initially, turn on the drill, straightening and at the same time slightly bending the blade.
These two methods return grater to factory sharpness, but take from 15 minutes or more, and most importantly - they require accuracy and accuracy.
After any sharpening, the grater must be washed to remove metal chips.
A cup and sandpaper are the most popular and easiest ways, but they only touch up the blades. Using a file or a drill and a drill, it will be possible to perfectly sharpen the grater at home, but the method requires more time and accuracy.
