Onion peel for the garden, how to apply and in what cases to use? As a rule, onion husks are thrown away, but in vain. True, some housewives use it as a harmless food coloring, for example, broths are tinted with broth, giving them a golden appetizing appearance, or painted Easter eggs. But they hardly guess that they give the broth not only a beautiful color, but increase its nutritional value, more precisely - its vitamin content. Gardeners successfully use onion peel from garden pests. Not the last place she takes in cosmetology, traditional medicine. The useful properties of onion peel, its healing qualities no longer cause any doubt.
In the fifties of the last century, scientists began to consider onion peel as a source of valuable medicinal properties. Then the doctor of medical sciences Yu.F. Shcherbak published his observations on the antimicrobial properties of an extract from onion peel, and V. Levitskaya and S. Kutumova suggested that histological preparations be stained with natural paint from it.
In subsequent years, Kuroda Tika (Japan) patented a method for producing quercetin from onion husks. The German scientist K. German said that crystalline powder, which turned out to be a glucoside substance, was isolated from it. In 1958, he also published his studies on the study of flavonoids.
In 1959, L.M. Zinchenko suggested using onion peel as a raw material for the manufacture of medicinal preparations with the properties of vitamin P (similar to a routine). Then Kuroda Tika again patented an improved method for producing quercetin from it. This product, according to the author, has bactericidal properties, is suitable for the treatment of atherosclerosis, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
In the future, scientists from the former USSR and other countries continued to study the chemical composition and healing properties of onion husks, proving that this was far from kitchen waste.
Onion husk in the garden
Onion husks are usually picked up a lot (from me) after harvesting during the selection and sorting of onions for storage. She's not very clean, dusty. Just the one I use in the garden to control pests. All particles of dust, earth settle to the bottom during the preparation of infusions or decoctions. The most important thing is to strain thoroughly so as not to clog the sprayer.
Decoctions and infusions are good against aphids, meadow bugs, caterpillars of a scoop, spider mites, drunks, tinnitsa, codling moths, common earwigs.
To prepare the infusion, take 200 g of husks from onions, pour 10 liters of warm water, insist 4-5 days, then filter, use to spray plants in the fight against pests. Treatments are carried out every 5 days no more than three times.
Or another recipe: fill the bucket with onion husk to half, pour 10 liters of hot water, insist for a day, then filter, dilute 2 times with water, spray the plants with the resulting solution.
To protect against the moth, I spray the apple tree with infusion immediately after flowering. I repeat the treatment every 7 days for a month.
When collecting husk, it is more practical to divide it into two parts - clean separately from spoiled or dirty. The first will go for medicinal or cosmetic purposes, and the second - for the benefit of plants.
They take the husk, fill it with water at room temperature, insist for three days. The resulting infusion is diluted with water - they are sprayed or watered with plants.
If you are steaming food at home with an animal or bird, do not forget to throw 1-2 handfuls of husks from onions. And if you do not steal the food, then add a decoction or infusion of the husk in the drink to the animals, especially the bird. It will only benefit.
A decoction of onion husks can be used as a food coloring in the preparation of culinary, confectionery, and various drinks.
Onion husk storage
In a dry place, husks from onions can be stored for years without losing activity.

Water decoction and infusion of onion peels have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the heart. They have a diuretic effect, contribute to the removal of excess sodium and chloride from the body. Antimicrobial, even antiviral properties allow you to use them as a disinfectant. With P-vitamin activity, water preparations of onion peel, like rutin, strengthen blood vessels, make them more elastic, permeable.
With amenorrhea (the absence of menstruation in women), the following broth is prepared: boil 1 cup of onion husk in 1 liter of water for 10 minutes. Take instead of water. If, after 7-10 days of treatment, menstruation does not begin, then it is necessary to drink steam from medicinal rue, oregano, Chernobyl, hemp tops, baskets of flowering sunflower and onion husks (take equal parts). Pour 1 tablespoon of the crushed mixture with 1 cup of boiling water, boil for 1-2 minutes, insist 1 hour, strain. Take 2/3 cup 3 times a day before meals.
With amenorrhea, the Bulgarian healer Vanga recommends: boil husks of 3 kg of onion in 3 l of water until it turns dark red. Drink infusion in the morning and in the evening on 150 ml.
Water broth or infusion of onion husks have cosmetic properties. Rubbing into the roots of the hair not only strengthens, enhances their growth, but also cleanses the head of dandruff, makes them silky.

Brew 50 g of onion husks with a liter of boiling water for 10-20 minutes. Apply to rinse hair after shampooing. Hair takes on a golden hue.
Professor V.V. Efimov proposed a “golden recipe”, which helps with neurosis, chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract, skin diseases, especially psoriasis, strengthens the body's defenses.
“Golden recipe”: pour a handful of chopped needles (30-50 g) from the end branches of a young pine into enameled dishes. Pour 2 liters of water, add 1 tbsp. chopped onion husks, 1 teaspoon chopped licorice root or its powder. Simmer for 20 minutes. Then add 2 tablespoons of mashed rose hips, boil for another half a minute. Wrap with a blanket or pour into a thermos, hold for 10-12 hours. Bring to a boil again, boil for 1 minute, put again for 12 hours in a thermos or under a blanket. After this, strain, bring it to a boil again, cool, drink without rules and norms - 1-2 liters per day. You can use this broth as a drink in a small company.
When using licorice in this recipe, you must remember that its long-term use is undesirable. This can disrupt the electrolyte-water balance, lead to the formation of edema, disturbance in the genital area, and other consequences.
Three teaspoons of chopped onion husks pour 0.5 liters of water, boil, insist 4 hours, drain. Gargle with this decoction with sore throat.
Take the peel of the onion, put it in a jar, pour table vinegar so that it is completely covered with it. Close the jar with compress paper or parchment, tie. Leave for two weeks at room temperature. After two weeks, remove the husk, let the vinegar drain, dry slightly. Grease the skin surrounding the corn with petroleum jelly or other fat. Put a layer of husk on the corn 2-3 mm. Tie up for the night. In the morning, having steamed the leg, carefully, without effort, scrape off the corn. If the corn is large, the procedure should be repeated.
In case of diabetes mellitus: 2 tablespoons of chopped bean pods should be put in enameled dishes, and there is not a very large handful of onion husks. Pour 200 ml of boiling water, wrap in a warm blanket for 2 hours. Then strain, squeeze, drink 2 tablespoons 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. In this case, you must follow a diet. A month and a half to drink - a week break, then repeat the treatment.
Preparing decoctions or infusions is very simple. A handful of onion peels are placed in enameled dishes, washed two to three times with cold water from dust, then boiled or boiled with boiling water, like tea.
If you get a strong infusion or decoction, then it can be rubbed into the roots of the hair, and to wash your hair, pour into a basin with warm water. They wash their hair as usual.
You can drink a decoction of onion husks like tea, without a special norm, diluting it with boiling water or mixing with ordinary tea. He does not spoil the taste of tea, since it is an aqueous solution of rutin, and the latter, being a quercetin glucoside, has no smell or taste.
If a yellow or brown precipitate forms at the bottom of the dishes, then this is the routine itself. It is used in scientific medicine for diseases accompanied by increased fragility and capillary permeability. It is especially good as a prophylactic to prevent hemorrhage in the brain, heart, and retina due to the fragility of capillaries.
Rutin is used for scarlet fever, measles, typhus, purpura (small hemorrhages in the thickness of the skin, mucous membranes).
Still - if doctors, when prescribing a routine, recommend that patients take ascorbic acid (vitamin C) at the same time in order to increase their joint therapeutic effect, then it is useful to add decoction or onion of onion peel to vitamin products: compotes, rosehip infusions, fruit, vegetable juices, jelly, with making homemade sweets, gingerbread, cookies, etc. When preparing family herbal teas, be sure to drop a pinch of chopped onion husk there.
